About Garner Generals

The Garner Generals represent the competitive division of baseball for Garner Sports League, primarily located out of Garner, North Carolina. Our teams participate in tournaments in the Raleigh area or within a short drive of the Raleigh area, such as Oxford, Wake Forest, Fuquay-Varina, Rocky Mount, Snow Hill and occasionally travel destinations like Myrtle Beach, Orlando, or Charleston.

The Generals are a competitive, travel baseball program that requires players to try out for the limited number of roster spots available. Travel baseball provides a higher level of competition and commitment than Recreational programs. We compete primarily at the D3 level making the Generals perfect for those families wanting to get into Travel Baseball and play at a competitive level.

Garner Generals teams provide a positive environment for players to learn good sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical well-being through quality instruction and healthy competition while fostering a love of the game! We want to help our players achieve their playing goals whether those are to someday play in college or professionally, or simply to make their middle or high school teams.

Coached by experienced volunteer coaching staffs, Generals teams train up to 3-4 times a week and compete in tournaments on average twice a month throughout each season (Fall/Spring). Positions within the Generals Program are year-long commitments, with tournaments running from Mid-March through early November. Off season training typically runs November through December, until the teams begin to ramp up for their first tournament to kick-off the next season.

All players interested in playing in our Generals program must attend the age group specific try-out typically held in November (for the Spring Season) or July/August (for the Fall Season). Players unable to participate in a teams’ try-outs may request a supplemental try-out by contacting the appropriate age group head coach. We strongly encourage all players to attend one of the bi-annual try-outs, if at all possible, as that will give players the best opportunity to be seen and evaluated by our coaches.

TEAM FORMATION

TRYOUTS

Fall tryouts are typically held in July following most Recreational Spring seasons. Generals tryouts are held each year to aid in the formation of all Generals teams. Players may also be evaluated by the Generals age-specific coaching staff during open practices or specific evaluation days. Using the results of these tryouts our coaching staff forms their team and extends offers to players to participate on their team for the upcoming season. Generals tryouts are open to any and all players that wish to be a part of the Generals Travel Program, however placement within the Generals Program is not guaranteed.

ORGANIZATION

Teams are organized by age group and skill level. Seasons for a each age group run from August 1st to July 31st. A player’s eligibility age is determined by their age on May 1, 2024. Players with strong skills may be considered for playing up in older age groups. During the summer months as teams are looking to move up in age group on August 1st, they are often referred to as “Rising” and the age group they are moving to. Skill levels are indicated by D1, D2, or D3 where D1 teams are highly skilled players and D3 teams are players still working on developing skills. For players new to travel ball, D3 is likely the correct level for them to get started.
